Old Things Passing On…New Things Moving In

Happy New Year. Freedigital photos

As 2012 comes to a close, I find myself thanking God for another year He has seen me through. I thank Him for good health. I thank Him for a place of employment. I thank Him for my home. I thank Him for old friends and new friends. I thank Him for my mother and how well she is doing. I thank Him for allowing me to venture into new ideas and creative endeavors. I thank Him that although 2012 had many obstacles, struggles, and hurdles, I still found myself growing.

Because He is my Shepherd I know that I shall not want of any spiritual blessings. Because He is my Shepherd He has allowed me to see 365 sunrises and 365 sunsets. Because He is my Shepherd He has allowed me 52 weeks of going out and coming in. And because He does not slumber or sleep He has blocked every evil force the enemy has thrown in my pathway. Thank you Lord for leading me down the paths you wanted me to go down and not the paths I wanted to go down.

Thank you Lord for continuing to walk with me and talk with me along the way and thank you Lord for 2012 and all that came with it.

Thank you in advance for what you are going to do in 2013!

Who is Jesus?

Jesus written in

  • He is the only way to God the Father. John 14:6 says, “Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.” (Amplified)
  • He is the vine and we are the branches. We receive life through Him. We can do nothing apart from Him. John 15:5 says, “I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.” (Amplified)
  • He is our advocate with the Father. 1 John 2:1 says, “My little children, I write you these things so that you may not violate God’s law and sin. But if anyone should sin, we have an Advocate (One Who will intercede for us) with the Father—[it is] Jesus Christ [the all] righteous [upright, just, Who conforms to the Father’s will in every purpose, thought, and action].” (Amplified)
  • He is the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls. 1 Peter 2:25 says, “For you were going astray like [so many] sheep, but now you have come back to the Shepherd and Guardian (the Bishop) of your souls.” (Amplified)
  • He is the only door through which we must enter for salvation. John 10:9 says, “I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (will live). He will come in and he will go out [freely], and will find pasture.” (Amplified)
  • He is a Mediator for us with the Father. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 says, “For there [is only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself as a ransom for all [people, a fact that was] attested to at the right and proper time.” (Amplified)
  • He is the light of the world. When we follow Him and Him only we will not walk in darkness. John 8:12 says, “Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life. (Amplified)
  • He is the Judge of all, living and dead. Acts 10:42 says, “And He charged us to preach to the people and to bear solemn testimony that He is the God-appointed and God-ordained Judge of the living and the dead.” (Amplified)
  • He is Immanuel (God with us). Isaiah 7:14 says, “Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the young woman who is unmarried and a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel [God with us].” (Amplified)

Reasons to Rejoice

There are many reasons to rejoice. The list is extensive,  but I have chosen just a few reasons that I hope will resonate with you if you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Salvation through Christ – I have the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit – Ephesians 2:8-9 (Amplified) – “For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]”

Sins are forgiven – Psalm 103:12 (Amplified) “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Justified through Jesus – Romans 5:1 (Amplified) “Therefore, since we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).”

Access through Jesus – Romans 5:2 (Amplified) “Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God.”

There is security in Jesus – John 10:27-29 (Amplified) – “The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages. [To all eternity they shall never by any means be destroyed.] And no one is able to snatch them out of My hand. My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater and mightier than all [else]; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of the Father’s hand.”

The Lord Forgives – Psalm 130:1-4 (Amplified) “Out of the depths have I cried to You, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If You, Lord, should keep account of and treat [us according to our] sins, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You [just what man needs], that You may be reverently feared and worshiped.”

The Lord is my Shepherd – Psalm 23:1 (Amplified) “The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.

Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice! Philippians 4:4 (Amplified)

Hope

“Let Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting and hoping for You.” Psalm 33:22 (AMP)

Hope in Hebrew is yachal (phonetically pronounced yaw-chal’). It means to wait, to have hope, to wait expectantly. Waiting never seems to be the easiest thing for us to do. We live in an instant microwave society and expect we instant results for everything. We are a “I want mine and I want it now” society.  When we choose not to wait expectantly on the Lord, our hope becomes impaired.

Jesus is our reason for hoping and waiting. Hope in Him helps us to overcome any amount of doubt we have about our circumstances. When we hold to our hope and don’t let go, it is a supreme act of faith.

Reasons to have hope in God:

• God spoke and the world came into existence

• He is our Shepherd

• His eye is on all those who fear and revere Him

• He is our help and our shield

• He is faithful in everything

• He is strong and mighty

• He always in control

I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1 (AMP)

Psalm 23

Today I  am sharing Psalm 23. It is one of my many favorite scriptures. I chose this Psalm because it lets me know that I can depend on God when I find myself in a valley, in a depressed situation, or in a quandary. No matter where I find myself, the Lord, my shepherd is there to help me. The writer of this Psalm, David depicts God as a caring shepherd who looks out for His sheep.

Psalm 23:1-6 (Amplified) – The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.  He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake. Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with [a]oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.  Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.

Notice that the shepherd  feeds, guides, and shields. When we follow him we will get fed, we will get direction, and we will get protection. Following the shepherd is the key to our contentment and security.

30 Days Of…Day 29 – “Nobody Greater”

Without a doubt there is nobody greater than God. A song by Vashawn Mitchell entitled “Nobody Greater” always reminds me of the greateness of God. The words to the song are powerful. In the song he says:

I climbed up to the highest mountain I looked all around, couldn’t find nobody. Went down into the deepest valley looked all around down there, couldn’t find nobody. I went across the deep blue sea couldn’t find one to compare… to your grace your love, your mercy, Nobody greater… nobody greater no… nobody greater than you. Searched all over… couldn’t find nobody. I looked high and low… still couldn’t find nobody, nobody greater… nobody greater no… nobody greater than you.

God surpasses everyone and everything. You will never be able to find anyone or anything greater than God. It doesn’t matter who they are or what they have accomplished, they will never be greater than God.

There are many names that describe who God is and all of His names show His greatness.

El Shaddi – God Almighty

El Elyon – Most High God – God is Sovereign over all – sovereign means God is in charge of the entire universe, all the time. Psalm 50:1, The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and calls the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

Elohim – My Creator – Genesis 1:1 , In the beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth.

El Roi – God Who Sees – Psalm 33:13-14, The Lord looks from heaven, He beholds all the sons of men; From His dwelling place He looks [intently] upon all the inhabitants of the earth—(Amplified)

Jehovah – I AM – Isaiah 42:8 – I am the Lord; that is My name! And My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to graven images. (Amplified)

Jehovah Jireh – The LORD will provide

Jehovah Roi – The LORD is My Shepherd – Psalm 23:1, The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack. (Amplified)

Jehovah Shalom – The LORD our Peace – Judges 6:23, Then the Lord said to him, “Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.”  (NKJV) – If we stay in fellowship with God he will keep us in a peaceful state of mind. Isaiah 26:3 says, You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. (Amplified)

There is no one greater than God and there will never be anyone greater than God.

30 Days Of…Day 25 – “God Is”

Because we live in a fallen world, I believe it means our total dependence should be on God. He represents the best that could ever happen to us.

He never leaves me when I need Him the most. He is my friend when all my other friends are doing their own things and just living life. He loves me when I feel the most unloved. He is never to busy to take my  call, and he is never to busy to listen to my problems.

God Is….

My Joy.

My Salvation.

My Strength when I am weak.

My Shepherd when I am in need.

My Peace in the midst of turmoil.

My Protector when harm is in my path.

The Lifter of my head when it is bowed down.

The one who dries my tears when hurt has encircled me.

Years ago when I used to sing in the choir at church, there was a song we sang entitled “God Is”. The lyrics to this song sums up what God is to me. The lyrics to the song are:

God is the joy and the strength of my life, He moves all pain, misery, and strife. He promised to keep me, never to leave me. He’s never ever come short of His word. I’ve got to fast and pray, stay in His narrow way, I’ve got to keep my life clean everyday; I want to go with Him when He comes back, I’ve come too far and I’ll never turn back. God is… God is my all in all.

What is God to you?
