Relationship Hinderances

Relationships are a big part of life and many times they don’t go so well. There are many hindrances to relationships. One our most important relationships is with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. When we are remiss in our relationships with one another our relationship with God is hindered.

Ephesians 4:30 (NKJV) –

What does grieving the spirit mean. To grieve means to afflict with deep sorrow or to distress. How do we grieve or distress the Holy Spirit of God? The way we live contributes to the distress of the Holy Spirit. Characteristics such as those listed below are some of the things that will grieve the Spirit.

  • Bitterness
  • Unforgiveness
  • Selfishness
  • Unwholesome language
  • Harsh language
  • Bad attitude
  • Ungrateful/unthankful
  • Grumbling/complaining

Instead of grieving the Spirit of God, we should strive to do what Ephesians 4:31 & 32 (Amplified) says:

31 Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).

32 And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.
