Serve The Lord With Gladness

It is a privilege to serve God and for that reason serving Him should be done with gladness, vim, vigor, and vitality. But sometimes there are barriers that interfere with us from serving God.  One of these barriers that keeps us from serving God successfully is self-centeredness. By nature, we are selfish people. We want it to be all about us, what we need, what we want, and what we’ve just got to have. This selfish attitude places a huge gap between us and the Lord. Philippians 2:4 (Amplified) says, “Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not [merely] his own interests, but also each for the interests of others.”

Another barrier or roadblock to serving God is materialism. Dictionary.com defines materialism as: “preoccupation with or emphasis on material objects, comforts, and considerations, with a disinterest in or rejection of spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values.” Don’t get me wrong, God does not mind His children being prosperous, having needs not wants met, and having the best that life offers. But, as the definition states, when it becomes a preoccupation and your spiritual life takes a back seat, it then becomes a barrier between you and God.  Luke 16:13 (Amplified ) says, “No servant is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Mammon (riches, or [a]anything in which you trust and on which you rely).”

Serve God with gladness and thankfulness. Don’t let it be a chore to serve Him. Don’t become preoccupied with things of this world because they will soon perish.

Psalm 100 (Amplified) – Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come before His presence with singing!  Know (perceive, recognize, and understand with approval) that the Lord is God! It is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]! We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise! Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name!  For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.

Dedicated To the One You Love

Image: www.freedigitalphotos.net

Are you dedicated to the one you love? Do you give 50%, 60%, 70%, or 100% to the one you love? Do you feel lost when the one you love is not around for you to share your feelings with? Does your face light up with a huge smile when you are in the presence of the one you love?

Now ask yourself these same questions in reference to God. Are you dedicated to Him? Do you give him your all (100%) ? Do you feel lost, alone, or lonely when you can’t feel His presence? Do you light up with praise and worship for Him when you are in His presence?

What does it really mean to be dedicated to God? It means giving up whatever God requires of you. To be dedicated means not conforming your will and your desires to those evil desires of the world. Dedication is not just for one area of your life, but for every area of your life. That means your family, your home, your finances, your talents, and all that you have are to be dedicated to God.

What instructions does the bible give to help us dedicate ourselves to God?

1 Peter 1:13-14 (AMP)13 So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed.  14 [Live] as children of obedience [to God]; do not conform yourselves to the evil desires [that governed you] in your former ignorance [when you did not know the requirements of the Gospel].

Romans  12:1-3 (AMP)1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.  2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].  3 For by the grace (unmerited favor of God) given to me I warn everyone among you not to estimate and think of himself more highly than he ought [not to have an exaggerated opinion of his own importance], but to rate his ability with sober judgment, each according to the degree of faith apportioned by God to him.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 (AMP)22 Abstain from evil [shrink from it and keep aloof from it] in whatever form or whatever kind it may be.”

Are you dedicated to the one you love?

Birthday Blessings

Today is my birthday and God said Happy Birthday Betty and because I love you so much Happy Birthday Faye. He smiled at me and told me that I am the love of His life and He gave me another year.

I woke up in good health, breathing, moving, talking, and walking, all without the help of another. My God is an awesome God. He is my friend, my father, and my all.

Birthday Blessings

B = Blessed – I am blessed with all spiritual blessings. Spiritual blessings are eternal blessings. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,…” Ephesians 1:3 (NKJV)

I = Image of God. – I am created in the image of God. “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:26-27

R = Righteous – I am made righteous through Christ. “Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:18-21 (NKJV)

T = Thankful – I am thankful for all that God has done and been in my life. “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:15-16 (NKJV)

H = Happy – My joy and happiness are in the Lord. “All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings], but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of circumstances].” Proverbs 15:15 (Amplified)

D = Day – Psalm 118:24 (NKJV) “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

A = An Abundance – God desires us to have an abundant life. He wants us to have an abundance of love, joy, peace, forgiveness, guidance, mercy and grace. John 10:10 (NKJV), “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Y = Yoke – God wants our yoke and burdens to be given to Him. “Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.” Matthew 11:29 (Amplified)

Thank you Lord for a wonderful and blessed birthday!

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.

Power in Words

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Proverbs 18:21 (Amplified)

Because life and death are in the power of the tongue, we need to be mindful of what we speak. We need to be accountable for the words that find their way from our lips.

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Psalm 141:3 (King James Version)

In order for good things to come from our mouth, we must constantly think on good things, positive things, and those things that the Word of God says we can do and who we are. Philippians 4:8 (KJV) says, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

  • I am more than a conqueror.  (Romans 8:37)
  • I can do all things through Christ. (Philippians 4:13)
  • I am a child of God. (John 1:2)
  • I can find grace and mercy when I need it. (Hebrews 4:16)

Be mindful of the things you say to family and friends.

  • I appreciate you.
  • I love you.
  • Thank you.
  • I am sorry.
  • Can I help you?

REMEMBER WORDS ARE POWERFUL, THEY CAN BUILD UP OR THEY CAN TEAR DOWN.

My Prayer

My prayer today stems from a song that I listen to often. This song resonates with my soul and sometimes I just play it over and over. It is a song by gospel singer o VaShawn Mitchell entitled “Nobody Greater”.

Lord I just want to say thank you for all that you have done for me because there is nobody greater than you. I love my mother, I love my family, and I love my friends, but Lord none of them are greater than you. It doesn’t matter where I go I cannot find anyone greater than you. When I stand on the mountain top, Lord you are there. If I am down in the valley, Lord you are there. When I look up at the beautiful expanse of the sky, Lord you are there. When I look at the shimmering ripples of the ocean, Lord you are there, and when I look at the diverse species of plants, vegetables, and flowers, you are there. When the sun slowly sets, Lord you are there. As the moon takes over where the sun left off, Lord you are there. How can anyone be greater than you Lord? You are the master and the creator of all and there is nobody greater than you.

Lord because there is nobody greater than you, I need you now, I need you every hour, and I need you every day. Because there is nobody greater than you, I’m chasing hard after you because I need you in my life, in my spirit, and in my soul. Lord I need you because you reign now and forever.

Thank you Lord because I’m still here and I’m still standing. I thank you Lord for a home to live in, for my health, for my family, and my friends. Thank you for my place of employment. Thank you because I can laugh just as much as I can cry. Thank you for drying my tears when I cry. Thank you for giving me a shoulder to lean on and thank you for carrying me in those times when I did not have the strength to take another step.

Very simply, Lord I say thank you.
